Teach Chinese at Starr King!

We are hiring two teachers for our Mandarin immersion program. The program is in the second year and has two kindergarten classes and two first grade classes. An additional grade will be added each year until there are six grades. Instruction is 80 percent Mandarin in the earlier years, and decreases by 10% each year until reaching 50 percent Mandarin/50 percent English in the later years. The Mandarin Immersion program is one of four programs at Starr King Elementary (General Education, Spanish Bilingual, Special Education, and Mandarin Immersion).

Requirements

  • Appropriate California Teaching Credential (Mandarin BCLAD)
  • Experience teaching in ethnically diverse setting
  • Experience working with a team
  • Knowledge of literacy teaching strategies

How to apply

You must apply to the San Francisco Unified School District before being eligible to teach at any individual school. Please follow these instructions from the Human Resources department. In addition, please contact the school principal, Chris Rosenberg, at 415-695-5797.

    May I ask is your primary school mainly teaching in Chinese or other language?
    I need a primary school where teaching in Chinese. there is a boy who was born in 2000 and grow up in China. But now he must be back to American and he can not understand English very clear. So, We need to find a primary school teaching in Chinese for him to continue his school work.
    I want to know the details of how does your school teaching students if your school teachs in Chinese. I am wondering if you can reply me in Chinese. If you school does not teaching in Chinese or if you happen to know some school who can teach in Chinese, please let me know. Thank you very much.

    This thing is very urgent for me. Please. Thanks.

    I am a principal of a Nursery through 12 full immersion program teaching Chinese and English to Thai students in the context of a US Standards based Curriculum. One of the things that I have struggled with is finding a Chinese language standardized assessment. I noticed on your web that you give a proficiency test in grade two…. What are using to do this?
