One of our core values is active involvement in a diverse and compassionate community. Our families play an essential role in building such a community for our students. A strong relationship between the school and families contributes to the success of Starr King students by reinforcing the value and importance of education.
Families are involved in every aspect of our school, from helping on the yard, in classrooms and chaperoning field trips to working at our food pantry and fundraising for the PTA. All families are encouraged to be involved in whatever way they can. There is a place for everyone to be a part of Starr King.
School Site Council (SSC)
The SSC is made up of parents, teachers, the principal and community members and its purpose is to develop a school site plan that sets improvement goals, determines how resources are allocated and addresses school-wide issues. SSC members are elected to serve the stated term of service.
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
The PTA is run by parents elected to hold office. The PTA meets regularly, promotes parent involvement and sponsors a variety of activities for students and families.
Parent Teacher Conferences
This is one of the most important ways families can be involved with the school and their child’s education. Parent Teacher Conferences are held twice a year and are an opportunity for teachers and parents to discuss student progress.
Family Events
Starr King hosts events for families throughout the school year to support student achievement, recognize student talents and celebrate our diversity.

Wednesday Envelope
Every Wednesday an envelope is distributed to students to take home. The “Wednesday Envelope” is the primary means of communication between school and families. The Starr King newsletter, notices about events, registration for special programs, and a variety of other useful and important information is included in the Wednesday Envelope. Be sure to check your child’s backpack every Wednesday for the envelope!
