Support for students and families
At Starr King we believe that healthy students are ready to learn. To this end, we work closely with families and approach students holistically, considering their physical, social and emotional needs. A team of support providers and on-site services help students with any issues or concerns impacting their learning.
Parent Liaison
The Parent Liaison supports and facilitates all efforts promoting parent involvement with the school.
School Nurse
The school nurse is on site three days a week to address school-wide heath issues, coordinate health education and provide preventative and basic health care to students. We also partner with UCSF Family Medicine Residents to provide health education to our students.
Food Pantry
The Starr King food pantry is made possible through the generosity of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church here in Potrero Hill. It is housed on-site and is open one day a week for Starr King families. Free fruits and vegetables as well as a variety of dry goods are available.
Learning Support Consultant (LSC)
The LSC coordinates student mental health/counseling services. In addition to the LSC, master’s level interns and the YMCA’s school-based mental health program provide counseling services to students and families.
Coordinated Services Team (CST)
The CST is a ‘umbrella’ support structure where the principal and all support staff meet weekly to coordinate school-wide wellness programs that support student achievement, and ‘case manage’ students with multiple needs.
Student Attendance Review Team (SART)
The SART meets weekly to monitor the attendance of students and plan strategies and activities to improve attendance, with an emphasis on addressing truant students.
Student Success Team (SST)
The SST meets with identified students and their parents to problem-solve about issues interfering with the student’s learning, such as academics, behavior, health and/or attendance. If indicated, the SST may refer a student for a Special Education Services assessment.
