How can I volunteer as a parent/guardian at Starr King?
Join the PTA.
All parents/guardians and teachers are encouraged to join the PTA. A $5 membership fee enables you attend monthly PTA meetings and get involved in efforts to grow our community and support our school’s success. Information about PTA meeting times, meeting notes, and special activities will be made available in your blue “Wednesday Envelope”. PTA information is also posted in Bungalow B (the “Parent Room”), the Parent Bulletin Board in the cafeteria and outside the main office.
Yard Duty.
The school is always in search of parents who can help with recess at lunch. This involves helping the teachers maintain order and engaging kids in organized games from 11:35 through the end of lunch at 1:20. It is optimal if a parent can volunteer for a consistent time each week, but not necessary. Any help and time commitment is appreciated. If you are, please speak directly to Mr. Rosenberg, Principal, or Laticia Erving, Parent Liaison.
Become a Room Parent.
Each classroom at Starr King will have a parent or guardian to serve as a Room Parent, a liaison between the teacher and families to help carry out projects to improve the classroom experience. Room Parents will also meet together a few times during the year to share experiences and help build a unified community between the four academic programs at Starr King. Preferably, Room Parents are also PTA members. If you wish to become a Room Parent, please talk to you child’s teacher.
Be a School Tour Host.
From late September through early December, Starr King will conduct tours for prospective families. We need parents to assist the Principal with tours, which take place on Thursdays at 10am. A sign-up sheet will be distributed during the September PTA meetings.
Work at the Food Bank Food Pantry. Every Thursday morning in Bungalow B, the school hosts a food pantry enabling families to fill up some free bags of groceries. If you wish to help with this program, please contact Ms. Laticia Erving, Parent Liaison.
Volunteer for special projects.
The school and PTA will have many projects in which you can volunteer. You will find out about them through PTA meetings, the Wednesday Envelope, postings and letter from teachers. You can also look in Bungalow B, on the Parent Bulletin Board in the cafeteria and outside the main office.

Hi - I’m the mom of a starting kindergartener this fall. I’d like to volunteer to help out as a room parent or at lunch recess. Can you please let me know what the next steps might be to do that? Thanks very much,
Ivy Lee (Ronin’s mom)
