Chinese New Year Parades.  Saturday, February 11th. Starr King will be marching in the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade!  50 of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th  grade students will perform dragon dance, drumming, and watersleeve dance. Look for flyers with more information, and please contact ginasatomi at gmail dot com if you’re interested in helping out. In addition, we are planning a school-wide parade and performance at Starr King on February 2, 2017.

New Starr King Gear!  Parents Becky Williams and Gina Lee-Satomi have designed some new Starr King swag -- you can now get sassy new logos on hoodies, t-shirts, and long-sleeved shirts.  Gina is accepting pre-orders for the new gear, which will be custom-printed after the orders are received.  To see samples, check your inbox for an email to the SKPTA list from Gina, or email her directly at ginasatomi at gmail dot com.  Orders are due by January 27.

Spring Fling is coming!  Please save the date -- Saturday, April 15, 2017! -- for Spring Fling, when Starr King’s grown-ups get together and celebrate our community.   Spring Fling is a live and silent auction event.  We solicit donations from local restaurants, museums, jewelry makers, etc etc etc, and then sell those items in the silent auction.  We also put on a great party at the Verdi Club and top it off with a live auction of amazing items and trip packages.  This is an adults-only event, so line up your sitter now!  Call for volunteers:  We need volunteers to help solicit donations and plan the party.  Please contact gracekao33 at gmail dot com if you can contribute your time and talents.

Notices!  Reminders!

  • Construction  on the Potrero Annex is getting underway, and there may be more traffic congestion in the area.  Starr King is in touch with the construction managers about air quality and traffic issues -- look for an update notice in your child’s backpack soon.

  • Parking and traffic continues to be tough at drop off.  Please use the STOP, KISS and ROLL system on Wisconsin, and please be don’t park on or off the sidewalk on the south side of Coral Street during drop off.

  • ATTENDANCE! Students cannot learn if they are not here. Our attendance has dipped -- please continue to make sure your child is present, on time and ready to learn, every day!  Vacations and planned appointments should be scheduled for outside of school time.

Three cheers -- Immense thanks to Nancy Hom and Sean Tao, kinder parents who are already making a huge contribution to our school.  Nancy has taken on the task of making sure the PTA is in compliance with all our nonprofit recordkeeping and reporting requirements, and Sean has joined the School Site Council.  Yay Nancy and Sean! Also, thank you to 1st grade parent Amy Davidson who has already spearheaded applications to two grants this year and successfully earned us $5k from the Lowe’s Home Improvement company for greening and outdoor education projects!  Don’t forget to say thanks to the great people at Lowe’s for their vision for helping great school projects.
