Important reminders!

Our first PTA meeting of the new year will be Thursday, February 1, at  6pm.  It will be a joint SSC/PTA endeavor. In addition to our standing agenda items [presentation/ratification of Treasurer’s Report], we will be reviewing our community survey! Dinner and childcare provided.

A Note from Principal Martin

As we embrace the new year, it seems a good time to make note of how well we at SK are fulfilling the mission our teachers developed this year: …”providing a supportive and equitable learning environment that empowers students to be life-long learners and community leaders.” This statement requires us to confront our assumptions about the many different students we encounter and instead  listen to their desires, understand their needs and respond appropriately.  Recently, on a  “school tour”, I took a deep look at the functioning of our school. I am happy to report that I found a compassionate and caring community, new teachers making tremendous progress, and engaged and independent students. I have also seen efforts to create one community through combined classes, broader parent participation in community events and an amazing ASK campaign. For my part, I am  developing a partnership with the GS Warriors which will complement our efforts to combat bullying and build leadership. Thanks to all in this warm and supportive community for your tremendous efforts to build peace and learning at SK, -D

Take the Survey!  Make your voice heard!

The School Site Council (SSC) and the PTA are making PLANS, and they want to hear from you!  As part of our ongoing efforts to stay on top of what the Starr King community wants and needs, SSC and PTA has launched a survey.  Surveys went out by email on January 15 in English, Spanish, and Chinese, and hard copies will go out on January 24.  Please fill out the electronic version if possible!

The survey closes on January 31, so please fill one out before then!  Thank you Starr King!
