Translation and Interpretation Services
The SFUSD provides free interpretation services for school-related meetings, including PTA meetings, School Site Council meetings, English Learner Advisory Council meetings, principal’s meetings and parent-teacher conferences. The District has been providing these services for several years since they are required and funded by Federal law (No Child Left Behind Act of 2001).
Translation and interpretation services are provided by well-qualified professionals who understand both the target language and school-related issues. These services are available in any language in use at Starr King, including Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Samoan and Arabic. For private meetings, interpreters also understand the need that families have for privacy and discretion.
To request interpretation services, all you need to do is fill out a short form. Due to the number of requests, the SFUSD Translation and Interpretation Unit prefers to have one week of notice for interpretation requests. But in emergency situations, they can honor last minute requests.
Interpretation service request forms are available in many languages on the SFUSD Translation and Interpretation Unit website. For more information or assistance, you can leave a message in any language at 415.522.7343. The Starr King school office may also be able to help with requests.
